  1. That’s exactly what I did when I moved out of my last apartment. I kept the old cheap bulbs while I lived there, and put them back in the sockets right before I moved out, taking the expensive ones with me.

  2. mine have like a 5 year warrenty on the back. Oh, i kept it with the receipt and put it in my tax files, just in case I get to make a big stink about it in like 4 years.

  3. the problem is: will the light bulb compay exist in five/seven years? what if its a big scam and the bulbs only last 1.5 years and they change their name every one or two years to prevent being sued? Unless its one of those LED cluster ones, i wish i had the money for those…

  4. I switched over to all halogens and CFs 3 years ago, and the CFs have been dying faster than they should. The cheap CFs can be killed by damp, voltage fluctuations, or crappy wiring. The cheap CFs are still really cheap in Boston, almost the same purchase price as the incandescents now, but they don’t have the long life of the expensive CFs.

I think damp is the main killer.

  5. Dude. When I moved into my house, the guy before me had tacked the wallpaper to the wall with drawing pins, and took it with him when he left. Light-bulbs are *nothing*.

  6. re: warranty on lightbulbs — It’s a scam, anyway. They charge you $4 shipping per bulb; that’s the price of a new bulb.

Ironically, the light bulbs at Ikea have lasted longer than any of the CFL bulbs we’ve purchased at hardware stores.
