Excellent choice! When I was in New Mexico for an oceanography conference (Weird, I know) I insisted that we make the trek from Albequerque to see it. It was february, and the sun was almost below the mountains when we crested that rise down into the plains of St. Augustin (I think?)… there was also a snow squall coming over the mountains to the northwest, which led to some of the best photos I’ve ever taken. A wonderful geeky tourist destination! Kudos!
