  1. Trivia that came up in conversation with a German speaker:

    * German for “pope” is “Papst”. (This is where the German speaker came in; obviously rather topical)
    * “Papst” sounds a lot like “Pabst” (We, cunning Americans that we are, figured this out on our own)
    * Pabst owns not only the “Pabst Blue Ribbon” but also “Schlitz” (thanks to Wikipedia)

    Conclusion: Schlitz may or may not be the malt liquor of choice of the Catholic Church, depending on how much mispronunciation you admit into dogmatic exegesis.

  2. Where, oh where, has the Schlitz gone? It is absent from Ithaca, and all of upstate. Ubi sunt, oh beer?
