  1. Buying food is the main reason I go out too. But there are enough different stores around that it’s always an adventure!

I don’t know that about spinach though. IMHO the only thing it has going for it over other leafy greens is that you can buy it prewashed and in a bag. Which is actually a big deal sometimes so nevermind I guess.

  2. In a fresh context (cheaper) collards or kale always win out over spinach. But when it comes to frozen stuff, spinach it is! Frozen spinach is easy to throw into the food you were making anyway and then you can pretend that you’re healthy.

Supermarkets are an adventure! But that can be hard to explain to other people.

  3. Can’t argue with easy. I don’t know that I’ve gotten frozen spinach before, but I’m spoiled living near a fruits & veggies corner store that I can just buy some in a bag whenever I need, and I can *usually* think one meal ahead. Also, something I thought of after my previous post, spinach is fine uncooked whereas kale & co. aren’t so much.

Sorry spinach, and sorry Dorothy for ridiculing your best friend.

As far as supermarket adventures… I like eating, not really in a gluttonous sense, but in the way that I like having energy, I like the feeling I get from eating a good meal, and if it tastes good then all the better. I like being able to make food for myself, it gives me a sense of self-sufficiency even if it’s just variations on the same four things most of the time. Grocery shopping is the precursor to all of this. If you’re lucky you will find interesting things, and some of these things will be on sale, and buying them will help add excitement to the basic human need for sustenance.

And rather than pretending to feel uncool about the fact that I like going to buy food, or that it’s sure to be intensely boring for some people to hear about, I’m going to let myself enjoy it. Even if it means I might sometimes type ~350 words about it into some comment section on a website.

    …so, yeah. spinach.

  4. We once lived in a gentrifying neighborhood with vegetable stands. Now that neighborhood has gentrified, and we’re in the neighborhood with pizza/fried chicken/chinese food/roti places (all the same place) instead.
