If you hadn’t just gone through all that, I would endorse the Herman Wouk miniseries The Winds of War and War and Remembrance, although I haven’t seen them. I don’t think they’re on the internet.
YES! The first couple of series of Foyles War are grand (how very English…)…and Laurence Olivier did his best Shakespearean accent in WAW…and I never can get the theme music out of my head (yes, I watched it on tv as a kid). Of course, I worry for your sanity if you sat through the whole lot…
The opening sequence in WAW is pretty amazing for pre-computer motion graphics. Also, haunting. As it should be.
