Imagine it is 1986. You are a young person with an interest in music, sitting in your bedroom flipping through a magazine. You start to read an article, in which you encounter a cultural observation based on a knowing distinction between Perry Como and Frankie Laine, who were iconic artists 33 years ago.
i’ve never been a fan of the rollins band, but i would listen to that man speak anywhere. in fact, his tour 6 ish year ago was the first time i needed babysitting for my infant. now i can’t think of henry without the colloary that i need to get home and nurse.
This one made me laugh out loud. I just saw Rollins perform 2 days ago! He’s still at it with as much vigor and energy as the decades before. Rock on, vampire dude!
Also, Undead Hipster detests the music, and wants to punch the guy (think of how much you may possibly hate My Chemical Romance), but then he remembers that he followed his own pied piper (Henry Rollins) when he was young.
i like Party In The USA by Miley Cyrus. i tried to fight it, even laugh at or criticize my cousins for liking various pop songs but heck, its catchy. why not listen to somethin i just enjoy? and if i can, why shouldnt i let them? theyre just like me when i was their age.
And the moral of the story is… modern kids never listen to classic music and flute, they listen to rap, rock and techno while smoking pot and drinking beer!

Beatniks don’t like Black Flag, do they?

A thought experiment:
Imagine it is 1986. You are a young person with an interest in music, sitting in your bedroom flipping through a magazine. You start to read an article, in which you encounter a cultural observation based on a knowing distinction between Perry Como and Frankie Laine, who were iconic artists 33 years ago.
Do you finish reading the article?

Black Flag are part of the contemporary canon, though. Big-band poppers haven’t been part of anyone’s canon since Elvis.

Have you ever heard “Clocked In” performed on piccolo? Magnificent!

robotslave: The analogy would make more sense if it were Barry Manilow instead of Henry Rollins.

Er, “that” analogy.

Disaffected youth following their pied piper.

I wouldn’t be against drawing a Perry-Como-centric cartoon.

I have that shirt…and then I saw Leftover Crack play and STZA changed it to say “Crack Flag”

I like these comics but I prefer the ones where I don’t need an obscure American history lesson first.
