Yeah, it’s sickening alright. Bad decisions, bad management, and we pick up the tab. Where’s debtors prison when you need it? Or, maybe, just regular prison?

I particularly like the “hamburglers” of calais.

Yeah. Instead of being moral or strong, they fly around in corporate jets to get free money from the government.

    I want free money. >_>

    Capitalism is the worst.

Nah, Capitalism is the best. The government bailout seeking moochers Grrl is describing aren’t capitalists. They are the creatures that grow up in a mixed economy weaned on irrational government regulations and lobby group favours. Separation of economy and state, Now! Capitalists of the world, Unite!

The state must manage the economy. A truly free market is like a land without laws – the most violent win and everyone else suffers. The problem is that the current government has been either criminally incompetent or thoroughly corrupt – but most likely a solid mix of both.

    “Capitalism is the worst.”
Is it really? Think that through again please. In fact saying anything is the worst is just not thinking.

churchill said “democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried.” he should have said “capitalism is the worst economic model except for all those others that have been tried.” “communism” was never implemented, but maybe it’s too utopian to be a system.

the uk seems to be doing better with a balance of socialism for fulfilling needs and capitalism for fulfilling desires than the us with a system of unrestrained corporate exploitation.

even the united states uses socialism when something is important enough: mail, military, emergency services. education. healthcare? it’s not important that people are healthy, so they’re unhealthy. crap.

oh and education isn’t important either, so even though it’s socialized, it’s only socialized on the equivalent of 5 cents a day. i’m sure when they’re done gutting the health care plan we’ll have 5-c-a-day healthcare. as usual the wealthy are fine. let’s not tax them though. if people with money have to pay taxes, that’s COMMUNISM. tax the poor instead, that’s going to work.

Capitalism, like democracy, is the worst option except for all of the other options.

Communism only functions in small societal groups. I remember a south sea islander explaining why the Chinese tended to be the shop keepers.

Our customs die slowly, we expect to share with each other. It’s really hard to run a shop. Your distant cousin comes in. Hey, we need all your chicken for a wedding feast. Culturally, I’m supposed to give it to him free. It’s an insult if I ask payment. It’s easier for someone outside the culture to stay in business.

    The Commonwealth (common good)
Works fine, so long as it isn’t being interfered with. American and European interests hate it so much they’ve taken it from Australia twice.
The canadians have the French quarter to watch the English and keep them from slipping, which is why they are held in such mixed esteem by their southern neighbors.
