Haha, his speeches are perfectly intelligible. At least, you can hear what his words are. :)

Over in the UK Mark E Smith is put on a pedestal. Personally I’d rather listen to ‘Raw Power’ at 16rpm

I do not know which I prefer, the cultural references I get or those I have to look up.

    Either way, thank you Dorothy

I doubt there will ever be a last generation that couldn’t play their instruments. Every generation has a tendency to buy instruments and then give up trying to learn how to play them…

But maybe future generations won’t be like that. Maybe in the future you’ll be able to program guitar-playing skills into a microchip in your head, or something. Actually, being a guitar cyborg would be pretty cool. The guitar could be part of your body too.

If this ceremony is done for this generation sometime in the future, guitarhero/rockband (because commercialized merchandise is one word or at least it should be) will get some sort of honorable mention because they have easily managed to generate a bajillion more members for this demographic…

And the moral of the story is… don’t clap too loud, or heavy statue will fall on your head!

Thing is with the Smith, whilst individual words can be glimpsed, when assembled they generally form impressionistic images rather than narratives and that can be hard to adjust to. His autobiography’s well worth reading though, he’s an interesting bloke.

And The Fall can play their instruments, he’s well picky about that. They’re very tight generally.
