Well. There were Nazis in the 90ies. At least where I’m from. One time they threw bottles at me. And Youtube has some really smart stuff. OK that’s enough optimism for this week, bye.
I remember in the 90s I wasn’t paralysed by the fear of saying something stupid and being defined by it forever, but on the other hand, I say less stupid things now.
Back in the 90s if I commented on someone’s work, I didn’t feel slightly disappointed if they didn’t ‘like’ my comment.
Every validation we offer people now requires counter-validation in return.

On the one hand you have the world in a bad place but with the genuine belief that getting better was almost inevitable. That civilization meant progress. On the other you have… this. Where every silver lining has a cloud ready to electrify your fiddly bits and every day you feel like you traded a bright future for thirty pieces of silver.
Were things always going this bad and we just didn’t notice it because of the zeitgeist of the time, or because we were younger and less cynical? Is it worse now with the current zeitgeist making us go this way? Is our cynicism unfounded, well-founded, or the source of our own problems?
I don’t know. If what I knew then was a lie, it was a lie that at least got me moving in a good direction I think. Now, truth or lie… I don’t know. How do you find happiness in a world designed to make everyone fear everyone, even themselves?
