MrJm,
Girl is afraid she is going to look in the mirror and see Bloody Mary again (go a few comics back if you’re confused about where BM comes in). Girl is grateful to not see her, but it turns out BM was just late. And BM is disappointed that she missed Girl, hence the hair covered sad face in the second to last panel.
No idea about “pony tail” though..
I read it as, Girl is thanking Bloody Mary for observing her (last comic) and soothing some of her anxiety about that (or at least validating it). Bloody Mary, however, is not being observed, and while Girl can walk out of the bathroom back into reality, Bloody Mary only exists within the mirror (when someone is looking directly at her).
But it’s likely this went over my head as well, as C+G so often does.

The titles are references to Beat Happening songs, although I’m not sure how that’s related. If putting “Ponytail” and “Playhouse” next to each other is just a reference to Black Candy for the sake of it I’d be happy with that.
In frames 3 and 4 Girl looks as though she has a ponytail. I’m going with that as the simplification of the Ponytail title. Sometimes things aren’t as complex as having to do anything more than make sure things are plugged in.
The “ponytail” of the title alludes to the growing length of your own past, which you are increasingly not able to do anything attractive with. This comic deepens the mythos surrounding BM and hints at a link between BM and Girl that does not depend on the mirror for its connection. BM is in fact a manifestation of a classical Jungian meta-dealy, with implications for all who elect to consider it.
@ dogimo: love the Jung reference, but am hoping to detect a hint of sarcasm there?
@ Roberta: I would definitely agree that she might be wearing a ponytail in panel 4, as there is no reflection of the left side of her spiky hair. I’m not so sure about panel 3 though (unless it’s Bloody Mary trying to look like Girl, of course…)
Bloody Mary is freaking me out ever so slightly, too.

That sound you heard was this comic going over my head.

I could have sworn the girl in the mirror was Girl’s “real self.” I’ve clearly gotten lost.

Check the reflection in panel three!

Poos,
Your comment made me realize how awful it would be to be Bloody Mary.
I mean, yikes, those initials!
Not as bad as being named “Poos,” though. You have my sympathy.

I’m thinking X’s explanation is probably closer… at least it feels that way to me.

Yeah, I’m not fully following the Bloody Mary comix. It’s a cool set of ideas, but I’m not all the way there.

I hate, hate, hate Bloody Mary. It totally freaks me out.
But this comic is weirdly sweet.
Very. Weirdly.
But genuinely sweet.

ponytail playhouse
All life’s a stage, even the bathroom? Bloody Mary contemplates risking her identity by copying Girl’s hairstyle?

Making someone exist maybe mutual, but is also philanthropic.
