She seems to disdain authenticity, and yet bring it up so much. What about trying new experiences, Girl?

Who cares about authenticity? The rest of the world is worth seeing. Just go out of city, into the open air. God created something worth looking at, even if man never did. A vacant German forest is far more beautiful than any French cemetery.

She wants to be original and authentic, but by wanting she precludes the possibility of being either because trying is still just acting the way she thinks she should to be the person she thinks she should be. The only people who can be original and authentic are the people who aren’t conscious of originality and authenticity and therefore can’t help being repetitive and fake.

    Bottom line: Girl cannot win.

Most people despise the authentic when they find it. It’s too down-to-earth and mundane to fit their preconceived notion of authenticity.
