“All in the Family” placed the television at the center of the Bunkers’ living room, and they spent a good amount of time watching it, as I recall. We just never really saw it because their screen was our POV. Our TV was the other side of their TV. Kinda clever, actually. And a bit creepy.
Yeah, as other commentors pointed out, Girl’s thesis is somewhat flawed. I can recall several TV shows dating from the 60’s and 70’s that regular depicted the watching of TV.
