“you’ve been hit by, you’ve been struck by…a smooth criminal”
seriously though, I’m curious as to what song this strip would go to. This is probably the most HONEST and TO THE POINT tribute/handling of this mess I’ve seen yet. Appreciated.
@Chris Jones
I think that you can forgive someone of something without agreeing with what they did or forgetting about how it hurt you or others. It’s just a part of the healing process on both sides of a conflict.
Putting aside whether or not Michael Jackson was a pederast, how do humans succumb to the delusion that the actions of other humans are theirs to forgive?
Jonathan misses the point. Forgiveness isn’t given or withheld from others. It’s something you do for yourself, to avoid being torn apart by your own anger and resentment.
Never did like the self-proclaimed “King of Pop”. I’ll miss him as much as I miss… uh, I forget… guess that’s my point. :P
I’m far less saddened by his passing than the fact that such a mediocre (though tragic) human being could become (and will remain for a long, long time) such a major icon in “our” culture.
To be honest, I thought that the news story of his death was equally as sad as the few news stories I had heard about him previously. Court cases and bankruptcy and an overall detachment from reality; it’s all sad. The saddest thing about his death was not the dying, but the fact that his life was so sad.
But regardless of what I felt about him, this strip is beautiful, poetic, and a very fair and honest and beautiful treatment of a situation that is overblown and over-talked about. You’ve done beautifully, as you always do, and I thank you for that.
Jonathan agrees with Jacob Adams when Jacob Adams confines his comments to familia, but is horrified by the idea that any of us were being eaten by bitterness and resentment toward Michael Jackson. Jonathan believes that such a state would be indicative of a delusional framework which simple forgiveness cannot mend.
Jonathan suspects that most of us forgiving or not forgiving Michael Jackson aren’t engaging in crazy fanboyism, but banal moralism. Jonathan freely admits this is speculation on his part.
il bet he faked his death to escape his massive debt and to start a new life. he’s been getting people used to the mask he called his face for years and now he finally took it off. well never find him. he’s probably going by the name Kenneth Noisewater. i have it from a reliable source that he thought anchorman was funny.
No matter what you think, if Michael Jackson were alive in any context, there is NO WAY IN HELL he would’ve allowed them to put her (or any of his kids) in the spotlight like that.
Ugh, Michael Jackson. Maybe he was the King of Pop but it’s still just pop music. He hadn’t even put out a decent album in years and, let’s be honest, his origonal work was good but not great. Let him go so we can forget about him already. When Jagger or Sir Paul die I will weep and gladly listen to their songs non-stop on the radio and agree when people call them a genius and a legend, but Jacko, I just can’t bring myself to care.

“Everything is easier to forgive when it’s over.”
Even if it shouldn’t be.
I don’t, personally. I don’t think anyone should.

“Pedophiles burn in hell.”
He *was* acquitted of this. You know that, right?
July 14, 2009
Besides, he was an infantilist, not a pedophile. He didn’t want to fuck your kids, he wanted to BE a kid.

Is Girl reading this from Antony Gormley’s fourth plinth?

Saddest karaoke ever. I wonder if all the drunk folks at the bar are crying, even if over completely different things.

I got too distracted thinking that Girl was reading from the machine in the voice of Vincent Price.
Also, I was waiting for someone to mention Captain EO. In all the coverage I’ve seen so far, it just hadn’t come up.
