At the Brooklyn Museum this weekend Small Child saw some 19th century Nigerian wood carvings with baskets and said there were “guts inside.” After a while we realized that the carvings were the same size as canopic jars, which he apparently remembered from our visit to the Met last winter where he spent most of the time lying on the floor of the Egyptian wing crying and kicking.
My boss once remarked to me that he hoped there was other “intelligent” life like us in the universe, because it would be such a waste if we were the only ones here. I thought, “Right, because one Auschwitz isn’t enough. Hey, you know what the Aldeberan system needs? A Trail of Tears.”
