I was truly expecting this. Ska had made a comeback. Swing music had made a comeback. Country music and Klezmer were making a comeback. Polka had Brave Combo. What happened?
There is always “Weird Al”…
And Oom pah, but not so much in north america.
It will happen, Dorothy. One day Polka will be the music of skate punks and computer geeks.
Then there will be a Gap commercial and it will be all over. Nothing survives a Gap commercial.
And the Happy Schnapps Combo. Honestly, it’s possible that polka made a spectacular comeback while none of us were paying attention, hung around for a few years waiting for its audience to materialize, and left disappointed.
Well, conjunto made a comeback, and that’s Tex-Mex crypto-polka.
Mexican Norteño Music.
I’ve not only heard of Brave Combo, I’ve heard them, and maybe not only on the Prairie Home Companion. I like just about any music (except a lot of country) for which I can understand the words.
