I did it! I read the entire archive starting when Drew from ToothPaste for Dinner blogged about comics that link to TPfD on 12/22. I’m caught up, and now I shall subscribe. Happy new year!

“Mistake” implies that there is a difference.

When a retrospectoscope suddenly appears in the water, in close proximity to your boat, that’s got to be fate.

But what is fate saying? That you really need to start looking at your past right now?

@Erika, I think coincidence is another thing people mistake for fate.

The fated retrospectoscope is saying that the unexpected appearance of mystical objects is usually a matter of coincidence. We can hardly fault the retrospectoscope for being somewhat ambivalent regarding its role in the universe.
