I get the impression that Girl isn’t physically in that strip at all (due to her lone appearance in frame 5). I think that she is a figment of Cat’s imagination, as her constant negativity has evolved into a mental reflex that manifests itself when Cat begins enjoying himself too much.
@B- Yes, I’ve always assumed the giant anthropomorphic cat is the one hallucinating the human characters. Vampires and dinosaurs are wildcards. Aces are high.
@David Thomsen – I kind of do that too, whenever I’ve had a trying day. About Girl’s comment, I think it really depends on whether you see the short-lived nature of happiness as adding to it or taking it away. Does it sour your happiness to know things can’t stay that way, or does it make you savour it more?
I prefer to read this as panel 1, 3, 5, 2, 4, 6… It makes more semse either way, but it seems best like this, as cat is standing around looking a little bored and lost, and then girl shows up to
Tell him to ask for happiness, and he gets it… But then he realizes that happiness is with his friends…

Girl may not be aware how exactly correct she is.
