Context is a valid part of art, but you can’t justify modern art just because it happens to be in a gallery any more than you can discredit graffiti just because it’s not part of the art establishment.
I wander who would win in a fight between Banksy and Andy Warhol.
Seriously, it’d be so much better if people just did oil paintings like normal, self respecting artists. Preferably oil paintings of bowls of fruit, or Duchesses.
Friends, the heart and soul of art proper can be found in a museum in Tijuana, Mexico. There, an artist can be found turning out piece after piece of famous celebrities adoringly rendered on a canvas of black velvet.
I think this comic was addressed well by a later comic about ego and communication; art, to be art, must be more than simply self expression; it needs to communicate some of that self to the audience.

Very little of the world’s art is found in museum’s. Often art museums are where bad art crawls into to die.
