It amazes me the morality of food in today’s culture; but to be honest, the issues have been around for thousands of years, if not all these issues specifically, most of them generally. The questions of what to eat, and is it morally right to eat, are reiterated throughout the history of religion. The pope deemed it immoral to eat horses, which was simply due to the fact that horses were the main mode of transportation both in battle and in peace. This, regardless of the fact that Saint Paul said all meat was good for food if taken with thanksgiving. I find the questions of morality in regard to food to be ridiculous to say the least.
In November, a food fight at a middle school in Chicago, Illinois, resulted in the arrests of 25 children, some as young as 11, according to the Chicago Police Department. (cnn.com)
Cat’s trying to make the otter an exotic animal.
possibly illogically trying to ignore the fact that all kinds of otters can be found all over the world, and spreading that propaganda
Have you seen the recent achewood comic about the ” seven dollar potato ” ??
It’s a lie that you need to pay up to get good or honest products or both.

I know it’s wrong, but I view vegetarianism on the same plane of out spoken Christianity. I understand your means are noble (which is arguable), but that doesn’t make the end product any better.
A vegan fighting against the consumption of meat has about as much chance of victory as a Catholic converting a Muslim.
Actually, C, that vegan has about the same odds as a Catholic fighting Islam in its entire bulk, to clean up your analogy. Muslims to convert individually, sometimes, anyway – but meat eaters tend to either change themselves or become ever more resolute.
Sorry about that dodgy-looking thing above, that was my site. Not, NBBB, me. Quoted you and linked back to you, spreading the Gospel of the Cat and the Girl yet further around the literate web … medievalists, in this case. Not just cos of the indulgences and the polyphonic dialogue. Mainly cos of the lovely T-shirt. Even medievalists need to wear T-shirts sometimes. When the hose, wimples, and so on are in the laundry.
The thing about dismissing vegetarianism as “conspicuous consumption of morality”… it’s cheaper and less wasteful than eating meat. It’s lack of consumption.

Beautiful. Vague synchronicity with recent bits on Achewood about charging extra for vegetables that have been talked to as they’re growing.

Love it. Cat, you are wonderful.

I keep kosher, but only for health reasons.

“exoticizing the otter” is one of the best one liners so far this year. I’d buy it on a sticker.

My lord, a comic with 2 punchlines, both of them funny.

I fear I am not swift enough this morning to understand the “exoticising the otter” line. Can someone spell it out for me?
February 18, 2010
Stephen: If I’m not mistaken (though I may well be), it’s a poorly-scribed “eroticizing the other.”

Yeah, who cares if people starve.
February 19, 2010
@StO isn’t that what he means? that morality of food is less pressing than getting everyone fed? or am i misinterpreting?

@rocketbride

Cat’s “sure, sure” is my personal favorite line, if only because it’s how I respond at the beginning of any argument.

And the moral of the story is… even if you go vegan, and you will eat cheetos, your fingers will still be orange!
