Is it wrong that I find this so moving?

These wordless, three-paneled, punch lines are so hard to interpret. Is cat protecting pepper from the neutralization of a relationship? Or did cat decide he wants pepper for himself? I miss strips that say something at the end. :( , :[ , :(

Perhaps he is indicating that salt, currently single, is capable of all those heinous acts which are the realm not so much of the completely unattached and ‘noble’ as it were – but of the reactive species, looking for something, and corrosive. Now, salt being an ionic compound, this is somewhat … well, reading too much into it.

I see him coming to a realization that his perception was incorrect and salt and pepper can be corrupt. ( I bow to all of you I am in the shadow of giants.)

I interpret it as cat realizing pepper is close to him. When he looks back at salt it has found a new mate, the napkin-holder.

Napkin holder? Is that what that is?

Salt and pepper were right next to each other the entire time our focus is away from them. Then when focus goes back to them, the salt shaker has mysteriously moved. It’s now by the napkin holder (hiding? conversing?) Don’t overthink things so much.

Uh-oh. The breakdown of semiotic oppositions will destroy traditional American values.

Media Ted lost his head but found a foundling Gal.
The Gal was named Gale and her parents set sail
On a schooner sooner sank than the Gal Gale would tell.

    Media Ted recounted his life,
the story of children and spiteful ex wives,
cadillac cars, collections of kitchen knives,
    And parents, now, fully carbonized.

The Gal Gale’s silence served to say,
The absence of same such left her unswayed.

And this is how Ted came to know,
What negative space means, between spoken notes.

(isn’t nothing a novelty, under the sun?)

And the moral of the story is… if you shake too much pepper, you will sneeze into your salt!

i think i get it, basically, the cat was saying how relationships make the situation more stable. But the salt left the pepper to be wit the napkin holder, proving that being in a relationship can be unstable, and unpredictable. Unlike physics. I like atoms.

But unpaired, instable things keep the world moving. I *like* moving things.
