Early Betamax was superior to early VHS but Sony lost the marketing battle. They vowed that it would never happen again. Fast forward to 2008 and Sony’s BLU-RAY stomps the superior HD-DVD format.
@Ross: According to the latest, it looks like Blu-Ray is the cassingle to HD-DVD’s 8-track. Most people are either happy with their existing DVDs or making the jump straight to online/on-demand HD video. The rest of them own PS3s and just feel a need to justify the purchase.

Somewhere in John Barth’s novel ‘Letters’ he discusses the blesisngs and curses of having a ‘history’ and if or when we should consider disposing of the past.
Two Latin phrases get mentioned: “Praeteritas futuras fecundant.” and “Praeteritas futuras stercorant.” Barth suggests the dilemma: Does the past fertilize the future or manure the future?
I prefer to say that the past just craps up the future! So, as Tom Cochran sings: “The secret is to know when to stop remembering…”
