“Also cat” indeed. It would seem that as far as “the economy vs. one day of beautiful delusion” is concerned, Cat is putting his stocking where his mouth is.

    Blushing?

I believe it is safe to surmise that they are both struck with horror and despair, feelings that they would prefer to hide from their respective loved ones if possible, at the poverty of their emotional lives and the inadequacy of their de facto family compared to the scale of their emotional needs.

    Or something along those lines.

This makes me realize how we don’t really have any backstory for how a little girl ended up living in a house with an anthropomorphic cat. Anybody else curious?

I would be fairly distraught if my ‘family’ consisted of an anthopomorphic cat who drinks paint…

My Grandmother has always made spaghetti, meatballs and sausage for Christmas Eve. She also made dinner for Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah. If that gives you any idea.

No, that gives me the opposite of an idea. It gives me a Newsweek cartoon.

Depending on the interpretation you pick, this comic can either make you melt with the sweetness of it or weep at their loneliness.

Greg, there was an origins comic really early on. As I remember Girl came out of the sea on a turtle and Cat sprouted from her head when she was hit with a hammer. With that in mind, I think everything else makes more sense.

To my fellow Greg: Origin stories are over-rated. I hope, some day, Marvel or DC will “reboot” a superhero movie without feeling compelled to re-tell the goddamn origin story.
