  1. Fascinating documentary about typography. I can’t believe I just wrote that.

  2. I actually found myself thinking it would be a great primer to the world of graphic design in general. What with it including interviews with a number of the heroes of the past 20 years, providing an insight into what kind of personalities are drawn to the field, as well as giving the unknowing some kind of understanding of what their designer friend is thinking when he picks up the menu and mumbles opinions on a list of names that don’t seem to be on the one they themselves picked up.

  3. A _Helvetica_ DVD should be arriving in my next Amazon order

  4. Oh, and if you want a small insight into what designers are thinking, look up designobserver.com – many articles are not very technical and are more general cultural observations.

  5. Helvetica is the model on which documentary filmmaking that doesn’t want to sound like Mr. Moore should be built.

  6. This movie just reminded me of my own woes as a graphic designer. Namely how I am envious of those who are capable of pulling off the neat and clean structualist modernist style where I am only really adept at messy post-modernist style. Mostly I dislike how none of my pieces feel “finished” in comparison to those who work in more geometric formulae.

  7. I bought Helvetica from Amazon and it was everything I expected it to be. My background is graphic design and I’m a LOLcatter.

  8. Hey Aussies;

    _Helvetica_ is screening on free-to-air SBS on Tuesday night!
